ISABELLA is a selection of that species, so expect the familiar arching strap foliage in a dense evergreen tuft, with stiff spikes of small beaded purple flowers pushed up through the leaves in late summer and autumn, often followed by dark berries.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIt is one of the few genuinely reliable things for dry shade under established trees, and it copes with root competition better than most border perennials.
