Grape Ivy - Cissus rhombifolia Ellen Danica (Rhoicissus rhomboidea)
Cissus or Rhoicissus? Both names follow this plant around. Rhoicissus is properly a separate African genus, so read it here as a trade synonym rather than a correction. What you are buying is grape ivy, a member of the grape family, and Ellen Danica is the oak leaf form, with deeply lobed glossy leaflets instead of the plain three part leaf of the ordinary type.
It climbs by curling tendrils, so it will grab a wire, a frame or a neighbouring plant, but it sticks to nothing on its own. Left in a hanging basket it simply trails, and looks good doing it.
Indoors it puts up with lower light and drier air than most trailing plants, which is why it turns up in offices and stairwells. Its two weaknesses are powdery mildew, encouraged by still humid air and crowded growth, and mealybug tucked into the leaf axils. Keep air moving, water when the top few centimetres dry, and pinch the tips to keep it branching.

This plant is available in 4 sizes, from 130mm up to 300mm, priced from $16.95 to $99.95 per plant. The size shown is the pot the plant arrives in, which is the rootball, not the height of the plant.
