Confetti Bush - Coleonema Brilliant Pink PBR (Diosma)
Sold across much of the country simply as diosma, Coleonema is a fine leafed shrub from the South African Cape, and Brilliant Pink is one of the strong flowering pink forms. The foliage is needle fine and aromatic when brushed, dense enough that the plant reads as a soft green ball even out of flower. Through the cooler months it covers itself in tiny star shaped pink blooms, which is where the confetti bush name comes from.
It wants full sun and drainage above all else. In shade it thins out and stops flowering, and in a bed that stays wet it can die without much warning. Keep it on the dry side, feed lightly, and give it a shear after flowering every single year. That annual trim is the whole trick, because an unpruned diosma goes woody and open at the base and will not reshoot from bare stems. Once it is leggy, the only real fix is replacement.
