Mirror Bush - Coprosma Ignite PBR
Colour is the entire reason to grow a coprosma, and Ignite works at the warm end of the range, with small glossy leaves in orange and red tones that lift as the weather cools and the plant sits in full sun. Put it in shade and it drifts back towards plain green, which is the most common disappointment people report with this group.
It forms a compact rounded bush that suits pots, low informal hedging, coastal front gardens and mixed foliage plantings where you want heat against grey or dark green.
The other common failure is drainage. Coprosmas resent heavy clay and wet feet, and a plant that looks healthy on Friday can be dead the following weekend after warm, wet weather. Plant on a mound or a raised bed, use a free draining mix in pots and avoid overhead watering in summer. Hard frost may cause some leaf drop. Trim lightly and often rather than cutting back hard into bare old wood.
