Flax Lily - DianellaDCMP01PBR Little Jess
The code buried in that name, DCMP01, is the plant breeder's rights identifier, and it tells you this is a protected selection. You can plant it freely; propagating it for sale is not permitted. Little Jess itself is a compact Dianella, a fine-leaved dark green flax lily bred to stay low and neat rather than sprawl, which is why it appears so often in commercial landscape specifications and long strip plantings.
The appeal is uniformity. Because it is propagated vegetatively rather than raised from seed, a run of plants matches in height, leaf width and colour, so a mass planting reads as one even sweep instead of the patchy result seed-grown flax lilies can give. Expect small blue flowers in the warmer months and the usual purple berries after them.
It takes sun or part shade, copes with dry once established, and responds well to a hard cut back every few years when old leaf builds up at the base. Avoid soil that stays wet through winter. Supplied in 5lt pots.
