Pinks - Dianthus Candy Floss Mauve
Why do pinks look brilliant for one season and then thin out? Almost always it is warmth combined with moisture sitting at the crown. Candy Floss Mauve is a compact modern Dianthus with fine blue grey grassy foliage forming a dense low cushion, topped by fringed double flowers in soft mauve carrying the clove scent the group is known for. The foliage holds through the year and still looks respectable out of flower.
Plant it in full sun on ground that drains fast. It prefers neutral to slightly limy soil, so raised beds, gravel gardens, pots and the front edge of a border suit it better than heavy mulched garden soil. Water at the base, never over the top of the cushion.
Deadhead regularly and it will repeat flower for months; let it set seed and flowering stops. A light trim after the main flush keeps the cushion tight. Divide or replace every few years, as older plants go woody and open out in the middle. Supplied in 140mm pots.
