Dracaena Black Knight
Give this one bright, indirect light and the foliage holds its deep, near black tones. In a dim corner the colour dulls and new leaves come through thin and stretched. Black Knight is grown as an indoor dracaena, forming a tidy rosette of narrow, arching leaves on a slowly thickening cane, and it suits a plant stand, a study or a well lit bathroom rather than full sun through glass.
Dracaenas are killed far more often by kindness than by neglect. Let the top few centimetres of mix dry before watering, empty the saucer, and expect the lowest leaves to yellow and drop as the cane gains height. That is normal, not a fault. Brown, crisp leaf tips usually point to fluoride and salts in tap water or a build up of fertiliser, so flush the pot through with rainwater now and then.
It is often sold beside cordylines and mistaken for one. Dracaena is toxic to cats and dogs if chewed, so place it out of reach of pets.
