Hydriastele microcarpa
Look at the leaflet tips and you have identified the genus. Hydriastele carry praemorse leaflets, which look as though the ends have been torn or bitten off square instead of drawn to a fine point, and that gives the crown a ragged tropical texture no Golden Cane or Kentia can match.
Hydriastele microcarpa is a slender feather palm from the wet rainforests to Australia's north. Evergreen, with a clean ringed stem and a modest crown, it belongs in humid, sheltered, frost-free positions: coastal Queensland, warm pockets of northern New South Wales, or a bright protected atrium further south.
It does not want exposure. Wind shreds the leaflets, dry air browns them off, and a genuine cold snap will set it back badly or finish it. Plant into rich, free-draining soil, keep the root zone consistently moist, and mulch heavily. Expect it to sit and sulk for a while before the crown lifts and growth becomes steadier. Supplied in a 400mm pot.
