Magnolia Sundance
Not a strong yellow. Sundance sits at the pale, buttery end of the yellow magnolias, closer to primrose than to the deeper canary of Butterflies, and in warm districts it can read almost cream. If you want punch, look elsewhere; if you want something soft against a dark green backdrop, this is the one.
It flowers on bare or barely leafing wood, cup shaped and lightly fragrant, and like the other yellows it opens later in the season than the pinks and purples, which usually keeps the display clear of late frost damage.
Habit is upright and reasonably compact, and it flowers at a young age. Full sun gives the best flower count, though a little afternoon shade in hot inland gardens stops the leaves scorching. Mulch well, avoid digging over the surface roots, and expect a slow build for the first few years before the canopy fills out. Offered here in a single mature container size.
