Bower Vine - Pandorea Snowbells
Where a bower vine has something solid to climb, it will cover it. Snowbells is a white-flowered selection in the bower vine group, carrying the same glossy deep green pinnate leaves and the same trumpet-shaped flowers through the warmer months, with most of the interest coming from the marked throat rather than the petals themselves.
It twines rather than clinging, so it needs wire, mesh, lattice or an open framework to get away. Fixed flat to a rendered wall with nothing to wrap around, it will sit there and sulk. On a pergola it is genuinely useful, because it stays in leaf year round and tends to hold cover lower down instead of going bare and woody at the base the way many climbers do.
Watch two things. Aphids find the soft new tips every spring and are best dealt with early. And it can swallow a light structure faster than expected, so build in an annual cut back after flowering rather than facing a rescue job every third year. Only 5lt stock is grown for this one, from a single farm.
