Pittosporum Miss Muffett
Compact enough to hold a clipped ball at knee height, Pittosporum Miss Muffett is a dwarf New Zealand pittosporum with small, slightly wavy leaves crowded along fine dark stems. Density is what sells it. The growth habit is naturally tight, so a low hedge closes up without much shaping, and it takes shears better than most small-leaved shrubs asked to do the same job.
Landscapers use it as a border edge, a clipped ball in a pot, or a substitute where box hedging has struggled. It works in full sun through to part shade, moves along at a moderate to fast rate, and gets by on low to moderate water once the roots are down.
The usual failure is drainage, not neglect. Pittosporums sit squarely in the root rot risk group, and in heavy clay or an over-watered bed one plant in a run will yellow and die, leaving a gap that takes a long time to fill. Mound the planting line in clay and clip in the warmer months rather than late autumn.

This plant is available in 3 sizes, from 140mm up to 250mm, priced from $16.95 to $59.95 per plant. The size shown is the pot the plant arrives in, which is the rootball, not the height of the plant.
