Happy Plant - Dracaena fragrans Marley (Dracaena deremensis)
Among the many forms of Dracaena fragrans, Marley is the one to reach for when you want solid colour. There is no yellow central stripe as in Massangeana. Instead the broad, arching, strappy leaves are a deep uniform green with a slight gloss, which reads as cleaner in a fitout and does not compete with the joinery.
It is one of the more forgiving indoor plants. Bright indirect light suits it best, and it will hold its own in a fairly dim corner, just more slowly and with wider spacing between the leaves.
Watering is where most of them are lost. Let the top third of the mix dry out before you water again, and never leave the saucer full. Tip burn is common and usually traces back to fluoridated tap water or fertiliser salts, so flush the pot through with rainwater now and then.
Worth flagging for households with pets: Dracaena is toxic to cats and dogs if chewed. Stocked from 140mm through to 250mm, covering everything from desktops to floor pots.
