Dypsis spp. Orange Crush
Collectors have been trading this palm under the Orange Crush name for years, and it is worth being clear about what that means. It is an undescribed Dypsis, so the label is a nursery name rather than a botanical one, and individual plants can vary a little from one another.
What draws people to it is colour. The crownshaft, leaf bases and petioles carry warm orange tones that deepen as the palm gains age and reasonable light, set against green pinnate fronds.
Culture is standard for the genus: part shade through to full sun, moderate water, no frost, shelter from drying wind, and soil that drains freely while still holding some organic matter. The colouring tends to come up strongest where the palm sees good light rather than sitting in deep shade all day.
In the 400mm pot it is an obvious feature plant for a tropical courtyard or a protected entry, and it is uncommon enough that anyone who knows palms will ask about it.
