Pear - Sensation Pyrus communis
Sensation is a red-skinned sport of Williams, the pear known overseas as Bartlett, and it behaves much like its parent with two useful differences. The skin ripens from deep red to a red-flushed yellow, and the tree is naturally less vigorous, which suits smaller backyards and espalier work along a fence. The flesh is white, soft, sweet and aromatic when it comes good.
Being a sport, it can revert. Watch for branches carrying plain green Williams fruit and cut them out back to their origin, or they will gradually take over the tree.
It is deciduous and needs a cold winter to crop properly, so it belongs in southern and elevated districts rather than warm coastal ones. Plant a compatible pollinator nearby; Beurre Bosc and Packham Triumph are the usual partners, and Williams itself cannot do the job for a sport of Williams. Pick the fruit firm and ripen it indoors, because pears left to soften on the tree go mealy at the core.
