Bower Wattle - Acacia cognata Limelight PBR
Two things kill Limelight in Australian gardens: soil that stays wet, and hard pruning back into old wood. Get both right and it is one of the softest textured natives you can buy, a dense mound of fine weeping foliage in bright lime, closer in feel to a shaggy cushion than a conventional shrub. It is a dwarf selection of the river wattle, grown for that foliage rather than for its minor flowering.
Plant it high in free draining soil, keep mulch off the stem, and water low once established. In heavy clay, or in a bed with a sprinkler running daily, it will suddenly brown out in patches, and that is generally root rot rather than anything a spray will fix. Trim only the soft outer growth to shape it.
It is fast to fill in, so it works in raised beds, along the top of a retaining wall where the growth can spill over, and in large pots. Planted in a row it makes a soft low screen along a path or fence line. Sizes run 140mm, 200mm and 300mm.
