Bush Lily - Clivia Belgian Hybrid
Dry shade under established trees defeats most flowering perennials. Clivia is the standard answer, and the Belgian hybrids are the selected end of it: broader, darker, more upright leaves and heavier heads of large flowers in deep orange with yellow throats, rather than the thinner washed apricot of a run-of-the-mill seedling.
Flowering runs from the end of winter into spring on thick stems held just above the foliage, and the glossy strap leaves carry the planting for the rest of the year. Red berries follow and hold for months.
Give it shade and mean it. Direct sun bleaches and scorches the leaves badly, and that damage stays visible until the leaf is eventually replaced. It puts up with dryness and root competition once the fleshy roots are established, dislikes wet feet, and is frost-tender.
Two practical points. Snails shred the emerging flower stems, so bait as the buds push up, and mealybug likes to sit down deep in the leaf bases. All parts are toxic if eaten.

This plant is available in 3 sizes, from 140mm up to 250mm, priced from $23.95 to $61.95 per plant. The size shown is the pot the plant arrives in, which is the rootball, not the height of the plant.
