Emu Bush - Eremophila Blue Horizon PBR
Grey is the point here. Blue Horizon carries soft, dense, silver-grey foliage that sits well against dark green natives and against rendered or rammed earth walls, and the tubular flowers through the cooler half of the year fall in the mauve to violet range that gives the plant its name. Honeyeaters work them steadily, since the tube shape suits their bills exactly.
Eremophila comes from the dry inland, and that is really the whole story with growing them. They want full sun, sharp drainage and moving air, and they resent humidity, mulch heaped against the stem and overhead watering in summer. On the east coast many are sold grafted onto Myoporum rootstock so they can cope with heavier soils, so check the base of the plant and rub off any shoots that appear below the graft union.
Prune lightly and often to keep the bush filled out. Hard cuts back into bare grey wood are unreliable.
