Dipladenia Red Riding Hood (Mandevilla)
Treat this one as a warm season plant and it will not let you down. Red Riding Hood is a Dipladenia, so it is bushier and more self branching than the true climbing Mandevillas, and the small trellis it comes on is more a support than a training frame.
Foliage is small, glossy and dark, evergreen where winters are mild, and the trumpet flowers are a deep red pink that keeps coming from spring until the weather cools off. Pots on a north facing balcony, beside a pool, or either side of a doorway all suit it.
Cold and wet together are what kill it. In Melbourne, Adelaide or Canberra, keep it potted under cover through winter and cut the water right back; in Brisbane it simply carries on. Watch for mealybug and mite where it sits dry under eaves, and note that the sap is milky and can irritate skin, so pull the gloves on before you prune.

The size shown is the pot the plant arrives in, which is the rootball, not the height of the plant.
