Hellebore - Helleborus Gold Collection® Ice Breaker Max
Plant this where you actually walk in winter, because that is when it earns its keep. The Gold Collection hellebores are bred from Helleborus niger lines for early and heavy flowering, and Ice Breaker Max is one of the larger flowered forms, holding broad white blooms outward instead of nodding at the ground the way older garden hellebores do.
Flowers open white and age through green and dusty pink, hanging on for months because the sepals persist long after the true petals have gone. Foliage is evergreen, leathery and deeply divided, making a low clump that holds its shape right through summer.
Site it in dappled shade under deciduous trees, or on the southern side of a wall, in soil that stays cool and moist yet drains freely. In warm humid summers the risk is crown rot, so keep mulch pulled back off the crown itself. Cut damaged old leaves away in late autumn so the flowers come up clean, and wear gloves when dividing, as the sap irritates skin.

This plant is available in 3 sizes, from 175mm up to 200mm, priced from $36.95 to $39.95 per plant. The size shown is the pot the plant arrives in, which is the rootball, not the height of the plant.
