Lavender - Bubbleberry Ruffles Lavandula pedunculata
The ruffled bracts sitting on top of each flower spike are the whole idea behind this series, and Bubbleberry is the selection that carries them in a brighter berry purple. Habit and culture match its siblings in the Ruffles range: a compact, aromatic, grey-leaved bush that flowers in flushes rather than in one long run.
It is a strong bee and native pollinator plant, and in mild districts the flowering starts early enough to be useful when very little else is out. Give it the sunniest, sharpest-draining spot you have, ideally a slope, a raised bed or a pot, and go easy on both water and feeding once it is established.
One thing to check before mass planting: this group is closely related to Lavandula stoechas, which is a declared weed in parts of Victoria and elsewhere, and the names get used loosely in the trade. If you are planting near bushland or on a rural block, confirm the local listing first.
