Lavender - Silver Princess Lavandula hyb.
Check the botanical name before you order this one. Silver Princess is far better known in Australia as a eucalypt, Eucalyptus caesia, a weeping mallee with pendulous pink flowers, and the two plants have nothing in common beyond a shared marketing name. What you are buying here is a lavender, a small woody shrub for the front of a bed.
The name points at the foliage. Silver-leaved lavenders come from the woolly, broader-leaved side of the genus, and the appeal is pale grey furred growth that stays interesting when the plant is out of flower. That silver holds best in full sun. In shade the leaves green up and the bush stretches and opens.
Grow it lean. Free-draining soil, gravel or coarse mulch rather than fine bark against the stem, and no generous summer watering. Woolly-leaved lavenders in particular mark and rot when they are watered overhead in humid weather. Trim lightly after flowering to hold a tight mound.
