Aeonium Short Black
Rosettes almost black in strong sun, carried on short branching stems rather than the long bare wands you get from the taller dark aeoniums, are what this one is grown for.
Colour is light dependent. In full sun the leaves darken towards deep maroon black; in shade they drift back to green with a dark rim, so a shady balcony will cost you the effect. Aeoniums also run on a Mediterranean clock, growing through the cooler wetter months and closing their rosettes into tight cups over summer. That summer sulk is normal and not a sign of neglect, and it is the wrong time to be watering heavily.
Use a gritty free draining mix, water only once it dries out, and keep the pot off hot paving where reflected heat scalds the leaves. Each rosette is monocarpic, so a rosette that flowers will die back and the side shoots carry on. Sold in 170mm and 200mm.

This plant is available in 2 sizes, from 170mm up to 200mm, priced from $24.95 to $29.95 per plant. The size shown is the pot the plant arrives in, which is the rootball, not the height of the plant.
