Swan River Daisy - Brachyscome Mauve Delight (Brachycome)
The spelling moves around on labels, Brachyscome or Brachycome, and both point at the same group of Australian daisies. Mauve Delight is a low, spreading, evergreen perennial with finely cut ferny foliage and soft mauve daisy flowers carried on short stems just above the leaves. It flowers over a long season rather than in one short burst, which is what makes it useful.
Landscapers run it as a soft edge along paths, as filler between rocks and tufting grasses, and in pots and troughs where it can spill over the rim. The two things that kill it are shade and wet soil, so it needs an open sunny position with drainage that genuinely works.
The other habit to know about is ageing. The centre goes woody and open after a couple of seasons. Shear the whole plant back by about a third once the heaviest flush is over and it regenerates from the base. Available in 140mm and 130mm across six farms, so quantity for mass planting is easy to put together.
