Hill's Weeping Fig - Ficus microcarpa Flash Standards (Ficus hillii)
How much clipping does a fig standard actually need? Two or three cuts through the warm months to keep the head crisp, plus a run over the trunk to rub off watershoots before they thicken. Less than that and the ball goes shaggy and loses its outline.
These are grown as a single clear stem under a rounded, clipped head, which is why they get used in pairs at an entry, in rows down a driveway, or in large planters where the trunk line is part of the design. Flash is the denser, glossier selection of hillii, flushing bright new growth after every trim and holding leaf through the head rather than going hollow inside.
In pots they are hungry and will eventually need root pruning, because a fig fills a container and then sulks. In the ground, remember the root system is vigorous and belongs well away from pipes and paving. Sizes run from 200mm through to 100L, so you can match an existing avenue.

This plant is available in 10 sizes, from 200mm up to 400L, priced from $50.95 to $3249.00 per plant. The size shown is the pot the plant arrives in, which is the rootball, not the height of the plant. The smaller pots hold younger plants that cost less each and establish quickly, which suits hedges, screens and mass planting where the plant count adds up. The larger sizes carry several more years of growth on the farm and give height and presence straight away, which is what you want for a single feature position or a screen that cannot wait.
