Kangaroo Paw - Anigozanthos Bush Fire PBR
Cut the whole clump to the ground once flowering finishes and Bush Fire will reward you for it. Kangaroo paws build up old, tired foliage that harbours ink spot, the black fungal blotching that ruins leaves in humid or shaded conditions, and a hard annual clean out is the single most effective control. There is no need to be gentle about it.
This is one of the compact hybrid paws, carrying furred flower stems in hot red and orange tones above a fan of strappy evergreen leaves, and the flowers pull honeyeaters in as reliably as anything else you can plant. Full sun is not negotiable; in shade the plant stretches, flowers poorly and stays damp long enough for disease to take hold.
Plant into free draining soil with air movement around the clump, water sparingly once established, and divide congested plants every few years to keep flowering strong. It suits mass planting, narrow strip beds and large pots.
