Kangaroo Paw - Anigozanthos flavidus Yellow
If earlier kangaroo paws have died on you through a humid summer, the flavidus forms are the ones to try next. This yellow selection makes a broad evergreen fan of flat strap leaves and sends branched stems well above it, the flowers a clear soft yellow that carries from a distance and pulls honeyeaters in. It takes full sun, needs little water once established, and accepts heavier soil than most paws will. Yellow flowered forms show ink spot marking more obviously than reds do, so keep the clump open: strip old leaves at the base, cut finished stems right down, and avoid wetting the foliage late in the day. Frost burns the leaf tips in cold inland gardens, though established clumps generally reshoot from the crown. Plant it against dark leaved shrubs or grey foliage where the flower colour has something to work against, or repeat it through a bird attracting border. Stocked in 130mm and 140mm.
