How quickly should I plant it?

For best results, unpack your plant promptly, water it well, and plant it as soon as practical.

Give your plant the best start after delivery.

  • Unpack your plant promptly and check the soil moisture on arrival.
  • Water deeply after planting to settle soil around the root zone.
  • Keep soil evenly moist while the plant establishes, without leaving it waterlogged.
  • Choose a planting position suited to the plant's light requirements.
  • Add mulch around the base to help retain moisture and reduce weeds.
  • Avoid piling mulch against the trunk or stem.
  • For hedging or screening plants, trim lightly once established to encourage denser growth.

Care requirements vary by variety, climate, season, and planting location. Always match watering, sunlight, and soil conditions to the specific plant you are buying.

Brush Cherry - Syzygium australae Pinnacle PBR (Eugenia australis)

For a screen along a boundary where there is barely a metre of bed to work with, Pinnacle is one of the few lilly pillies that genuinely holds a narrow upright column without constant clipping. It stays dense from low down, so it screens at eye level instead of going bare and leggy at the base the way older Syzygium selections do.

New growth flushes bronze to copper against glossy dark mature leaves, and the small fluffy white flowers are followed by edible berries.

What ruins lilly pillies is psyllid, the sap sucking insect that pits and puckers new leaves. Pinnacle was selected for resistance and holds up far better than the old Eugenia hedges, but check each new flush anyway and hose off or treat early if you see dimpling. The other common failure is drought stress. They look tough, but a hedge that dries out sheds leaf from the inside out, so mulch well and water deeply through the first two summers.

Choosing a size

This plant is supplied in one size, 30L, at $199.00 per plant. The size shown is the pot it arrives in, which is the rootball, not the height of the plant. Not sure which to choose? Read our guide to choosing a lilly pilly.
