Buy the height you want up front. These are grafted standards, with the weeping head worked onto a straight clear stem, so the trunk gains very little length after planting; what changes is the head, which thickens and lengthens its skirt year on year.
White single blossom opens along the bare hanging wood in the cold months, well before the leaves, which is why the winter flowering cherries get used beside entries, seating and paths rather than out in a back paddock. The deciduous foliage that follows is small and toothed, quiet through summer, turning soft yellow before it drops.
