Meyer Lemon - Citrus limon
Meyer lemon is not really a lemon. It is a natural hybrid, and it shows: thin smooth skin in deep yellow to faint orange, orange tinted juice, and acid noticeably softer than a Eureka or Lisbon. Cooks either love that or find it too gentle for a sharp dressing, so keep a true lemon as well if acid matters.
It is the most useful citrus for containers. The tree is compact and bushy, moderate in growth, evergreen, and it flowers and fruits in flushes across much of the year in mild districts. Full sun and deep summer watering are the two things it will not do without.
Three things to watch on Australian trees:
- Citrus gall wasp, as woody swellings on stems in eastern states. Cut them out before spring.
- Leafminer scribbling silver trails through the spring flush.
- Suckers below the graft, which take over quickly if ignored.

Choosing a size
This plant is available in 10 sizes, from 140mm up to 500mm, priced from $17.95 to $489.00 per plant. The size shown is the pot the plant arrives in, which is the rootball, not the height of the plant. The smaller pots hold younger plants that cost less each and establish quickly, which suits hedges, screens and mass planting where the plant count adds up. The larger sizes carry several more years of growth on the farm and give height and presence straight away, which is what you want for a single feature position or a screen that cannot wait.
