Tahitian Lime - Citrus latifolia Grafted
Tahitian lime is the lime most Australian cooks actually mean, and the one that behaves best in a suburban backyard. Citrus latifolia makes a rounded evergreen tree with few or no thorns, dark leaves and heavy crops of seedless fruit that are picked deep green, when the juice is at its most aromatic. Left hanging, limes turn pale yellow and lose their edge, so pick early and often.
It is more forgiving of cool conditions than the small tropical limes, though hard frost will still burn young growth. The classic failure is fruit drop shortly after flowering, usually traced back to the tree drying out or copping drying wind while it is trying to set.

The size shown is the pot the plant arrives in, which is the rootball, not the height of the plant. The smaller pots hold younger plants that cost less each and establish quickly, which suits hedges, screens and mass planting where the plant count adds up. The larger sizes carry several more years of growth on the farm and give height and presence straight away, which is what you want for a single feature position or a screen that cannot wait.
