Flax Lily

Dianellas are the colour half of the great Australian strappy-leaf duo: where lomandra brings texture, flax lilies bring blue-grey, burgundy and variegated foliage, sprays of little blue spring flowers, and purple berries the silvereyes squabble over. This page lists every dianella available from our partner farms.

The compact cultivars carry most modern landscape work: Little Rev with tidy blue-grey fans, Cassa Blue for stronger blue foliage, Breeze in fresh green, and Clarity Blue and Blaze extending the palette. The tasmanica selections add cool-climate muscle: Tasred and Wyeena with red-flushed bases, plus the species Tasman flax lily for shaded southern gardens.

The species forms remain the revegetation and big-landscape picks: blue flax lily (Dianella caerulea) including the vigorous Gangbusters, the spreading D. revoluta, and D. longifolia, all indestructible once established. Utopia, Revelation and the variegated hybrid round out the collection for feature planting.

Growing notes: dianellas handle sun and part shade, sand and clay, coast and inland, and they are among the few strappy plants that keep their colour in dry shade under established trees. Plant at four to six per square metre for massed cover, water through the first summer, then leave them alone. Every few years, cut tired clumps back by half in spring to refresh the fans. Feed sparingly with a native fertiliser if at all.

Pair them with lomandra and native grasses, or slot them straight into the low-maintenance plan. Every order ships farm-direct with flat $99 delivery across QLD, NSW, VIC, SA, ACT and WA, a $399 minimum order, and the 30-Day Healthy Plant Guarantee.
